Nick Sparling
Director of Community Resilience

Nick Sparling is the Director of Community Resilience at Wildfire Collaborative Roaring Fork Valley. He leads community outreach, mitigation programs, and spatial data work to help residents take action on wildfire risk. While large-scale fuel breaks and landscape-level projects play a critical role in wildfire resilience, Nick’s focus is on the residential side: helping individual homeowners make their properties more defensible. His work spans the Mitigation Assistance Program, which connects homeowners with funding and support for defensible space and home hardening projects, and the Neighborhood Ambassador Program, which builds a network of local champions across the valley.

Nick’s connection to this work started before he joined the Collaborative full-time. He collected field data on over 8,000 homes across Snowmass Village, Carbondale, and Aspen to support Dr. Hussam Mahmoud’s wildfire risk model. That scale of on-the-ground data collection now shapes how he approaches mitigation programs, always grounded in the resident experience.

Nick holds a BA in Energy Policy & Management from Western Washington University. He’s drawn to the practical, human side of wildfire resilience: helping neighbors understand their risk and take the next step to protect their homes. Outside of work, he can be found floating the Roaring Fork, hiking, or on the golf course.
