With wildfires becoming more intense and more frequent, early detection is one of the most effective tools we have to protect the Roaring Fork Valley. When smoke is detected quickly, fire agencies gain precious minutes—time that can mean the difference between a small, containable ignition and a fast-moving, destructive wildfire.
Early detection strengthens every part of our wildfire-resilience strategy:
Faster alerts give responders a critical head start and allow residents more time to prepare or evacuate.
Shared awareness improves coordination among neighbors, HOAs, land managers, and fire agencies.
Smaller fires, fewer disasters: stopping ignitions early dramatically reduces the chance of large, costly wildfires.
To bring this capability to our region, the Wildfire Collaborative Roaring Fork Valley has deployed state-of-the-art wildfire detection technology from Pano AI—a system capable of spotting smoke within minutes and triggering a rapid, informed response.
The Pano Rapid Detect system pairs ultra-high-definition panoramic cameras, artificial intelligence, and expert human analysts to monitor the valley 24/7. Each Pano station:
Rotates a full 360° and detects smoke up to 10 miles away, in any weather and at any time of day.
Uses advanced AI detection algorithms plus real human review to eliminate false alarms caused by dust, fog, or clouds.
Sends verified alerts directly to local fire authorities, who can zoom in with 30× optical capability, pinpoint precise ignition locations, and dispatch responders within minutes.
This hybrid AI–human system gives fire agencies real-time situational awareness, helping them act quickly and keep small fires small.
The Roaring Fork Valley now hosts one of the most extensive wildfire detection camera networks in Colorado, with nine active Pano stations positioned to monitor high-risk areas across the region:
Aspen: Red Mountain, Ajax Mountain, Williams Mountain
Snowmass Village: Jack Rabbit Ridge
Basalt: Crown Mountain
Thomasville: Red Table Mountain
Carbondale/Redstone: Elephant Mountain
Glenwood Springs: Lookout Mountain, Sunlight Mountain
